Newly was born in Colorado and spent most of his youth in the Middle Park region of the Rocky Mountains.  His father operated a mobile repair business that catered to the local ranchers, which allowed Newly to be influenced by the traditionalism of the ranching community. This influence continued to flourish his interest in the cowboy lifestyle.

Newly, his wife Becky and their two children, currently reside on their ranch in south central Nebraska, where he owns and operates Mill Iron ZB Saddlery, a custom saddle and leather shop. Although he dabbles in many forms of visual art, Newly has found leather to be his medium of choice. His drive to be a perpetual student, has materialized into a product that is rich in integrity and quality.

Through the years of working on ranches and pursuing his passion for art, music and western culture, he has continued to nourish and refine his craft. Through experience derived from the harsh realities of the culture, his documentation of ranch life through rhyme has taken on its own personality. A unique combination of biblical truth combined with real world experience, wrapped in cowboy clothes, presents opportunity for a vast assortment of audience emotion.
